21st Century Theorems

This piece is three twenty-first century "theorems" based on a reading of Walter Ong's Orality and Literacy. I chose to take this from a standpoint of picking up where Ong left off. I took his ideas, interpreted them for myself, and then applied them to new writing and how I write myself, coming up with theorems of writing. This piece was from the Introduction to Theories of Writing course.

Proposal

This piece of writing was done for a final project in which we were tasked with taking a book written in the last ten years and reading it side by side with a classic, then proposing the new book as a classic to a school board of our choice. I chose The Road by Cormac McCarthy and Lord of the Flies by William Golding. This piece was done for the Introduction to Theories of Writing Course.

Poster

Along with providing a proposal to schoolboard we were also tasked to create a media element that incorporated our “new classic”, also get high school kids excited about reading, and also include other aspects of the course. In my poster I used a quote from Walter J. Ong’s Orality and Literacy because I think it was the most important material done in the writing practices courses due to not only how much it informs but also the ideas put forth are still applicable to writing today. This poster was done for the Introduction to Theories of Writing Course.
